Non-Standard Home Insurance

Non-standard home insurance is designed for homes that don't fit the typical stereotype of a standard property. This may include homes that have unique features, are situated in high-risk locations, or where there has previously been issues which have affected the property and/or its contents.

Our Main Areas of Business for Non-Standard Home and Property Insurance

  • Whether your property has suffered a previous flood or is just located in an area that is deemed to be at risk of flooding, we have multiple insurers available on our panel who can offer a quotation.

A number of our insurers have access to the government’s FloodRe Scheme which provides more affordable flood cover with just a £250 excess to pay in the event of a Flood claim.

  • Standard home insurers run a mile as soon as you mention the word ‘Subsidence’, our panel of insurers has a much more realistic view on the matter.

Regardless of how large the issue was, or what remedies were carried out to resolve the issue, we will be more than willing to look at providing you with the coverage you need with one of the reputable insurers on our panel.

  • Multiple cover options are available for Listed Buildings. This includes Grade I, Grade II, Grade II*, Grade A & B (in Scotland).

Our specialist insurers understand the importance of your properties historical interest and will ensure you have the correct cover in place if you ever need to repair damage to your building to match its original form.

  • Properties can become empty for many reasons. Unfortunately, standard home insurers tend to restrict cover once the property becomes ‘unoccupied’ to basic coverage for Fire, Lightning, Earthquake, Explosion, and Aircraft. Also known as FLEEA cover. Whether the property is up for sale, you're going on an extended holiday or sadly due to a relative passing away, we have access to multiple insurers who can cater to an individual’s exact needs.

Our expert staff will assess your situation and find a policy most suitable for you, making it clear to you what the conditions of the policy require from you to ensure you are protecting your assets adequately.

  • Owning a beautifully British property such as a home with a thatched roof, unfortunately, comes with higher insurance costs due to thatch roofs being deemed ‘non-standard’ because of the high fire risk they impose and thatch roofs can cost considerably more to repair. A significant percentage of thatch properties are also Listed Buildings.

Luckily we have access to some of the leading insurers in the market who can cater for all different types of thatched properties.

  • Running a business from home can introduce additional risks which need to be considered. Public Liability to your business visitors is the main one and insuring your business equipment and stock must be taken into account. Standard home insurance policies do not offer this level of coverage and in the event of a claim, not having the correct policy in place could invalidate your insurance.

We can gather quotes from our panel of insurers to ensure we are offering you a suitable policy at a competitive premium.

  • If your property is not built of ‘Standard’ materials such as brick or stone walls with a tile or slate roof, then it is deemed to be built of ‘Non-Standard’ construction. There are many types of non-standard constructed homes, such as timber frames, or cladding to steel frames with metal cladding.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like a quotation.

  • Holiday homes, holiday lets and B&B all have more risk exposure than a conventional house. For example, a Holiday home tends to have a period of time where the property is not lived in, meaning it does not fit the typical mold of a standard home. A Holiday let and B&B have short-term tenants staying, which means you must consider the increased risk of the Public Liability element of the property.

Our staff are trained to understand the exact needs of each type of these properties and have access to market-leading products to ensure you are protecting yourself, your assets, and your tenants.

  • If you have an unspent criminal conviction, the standard home insurance market will simply reject a quotation.

We have access to insurers willing to offer insurance for those with unspent criminal convictions. So please get in touch if you would like a quotation.

We work with a wide range of insurance companies that can cater to all types of Non-standard household risks or even a mixture of Non-Standard elements. Our expertly trained staff can ensure you are being offered a suitable policy to meet your needs and having multiple markets available means we can ensure we are offering you a competitive premium.
